Originally a church on Milton Road, Little Locals has transformed this beautiful building into a unique early learning childcare centre.

Children of all ages will delight in the water park, racetrack and trampoline, not to mention the impressive 15m slide and adventure fort!

With separate play areas specifically designed for each age group, the sprawling facilities collectively focus on a play-based approach to learning.

Childcare sustainability and educational facilities

Little Locals Director Tim Searles says their emphasis has been on people, sustainability and education.

“Our values include attracting and looking after the best staff. We encourage learning through play, and our staff are as much a part of that as the exciting and unique playgrounds we offer.”

This philosophy of looking after each other extends beyond the children and staff of Little Locals, and onto the families and wider community.

“We pride ourselves on putting families and staff first, in order to make a positive impact on the local community” says Tim.

Brisbane’s family owned childcare centres

Little Locals is a family owned and operated business, with manager Sophie Jones bringing over 10 years of childcare experience to the centre.

This is the sixth addition to their early learning group which officially opened in early November 2020. The centre can welcome up to 120 children, with 30 qualified educators coming onboard.

The health and wellbeing of both children and educators is immediately evident.

High quality, natural wood has been utilised to furnish the interiors and healthy, nutritious meals are prepared fresh each day.

Much of the building’s historic character has been retained through thoughtful planning.

Beautiful stained-glass windows, exposed rafters and archways are blended with state of the art facilities and a commitment to sustainability.

Teaching children respect for the natural world

Environmental education is another unique offering which sets Little Locals apart from the rest.

They understand that the people who will benefit most from sustainable practices are the young children in their care.

“Our centre encourages children to develop a bond with the natural environment through gardening, sorting and participating in a green program which shows respect for the natural world.”

Throughout the childcare centre, beautiful murals of Mt Coot-tha have been hand painted by local artist JR Ellis.

The imagery depicts the unique ecosystems and wildlife of Queensland which the centre’s conservation efforts aim to protect.

Further demonstrating their commitment to sustainability, Little Locals is a carbon neutral centre as well as a corporate partner with the Save the Daintree foundation.

Enrollments and childcare subsidies

Little Locals is open for enrolments and offers childcare for children aged 6 weeks to 12 years.

Their nursery can accommodate up to 12 babies and fees range from $134 to $139 per day (before Government subsidies) depending on age.

Little Locals also encourage an ‘open door’ policy, where parents are welcome at any time of the day.

The centre is conveniently located on the corner of Milton Road and Wienholt Street in Auchenflower and operates from 6:30am to 6:30pm Monday to Friday.
