Complete with guest speakers, specialty cocktails and raffle prizes, we raised $4,608 for the Love Your Sister foundation.

Each year we host a charity fundraiser to raise money for a cause close to our hearts. This year, we could not think of a more worthy charity than the ‘Love Your Sister Foundation’.

Their goal is to raise $10M to help vanquish all cancers with hard science.

Samuel Johnson has dedicated his life to LYS

Actor and OAM recipient Samuel Johnson has already raised an incredible $9M in the name of his late sister Connie Johnson, who sadly passed away in 2017 from cancer.

After a lifelong battle with multiple cancers, Connie dared her younger brother to unicycle around Australia in the face of her terminal diagnosis with breast cancer.

What started as a dare, turned into a nation-wide challenge. Each community Sam unicycled to would welcome him with enormous support and inspired him to do even more for LYS.

He took on any challenge the towns would throw at him – unicycle bungy jumping, sheep shearing, skydiving, bull riding and spider eating to name just a few!

Whilst we may not be jumping out of planes, we held a charity High Tea to help LYS reach their target of $10M.

The event was a huge success and thanks to the generosity of our community, it far exceeded our expectations.

High tea fundraiser in Toowong

On Sunday 20th October, 52 guests joined us for the High Tea fundraiser, which was held at our favourite local restaurant Barolos.

Guests wore a splash of pink in memory of Connie Johnson and were delighted with divine sweet treats, elegant sandwiches, traditional scones, prosecco and a special martini cocktail.

With the help of local businesses throughout Brisbane’s inner western suburbs, we organised over 30 amazing raffle prizes and silent auctions, which were given away on the day.

Prizes included a weekend away at an Airbnb in Mooloolaba ($260), GHD hair straightener ($290) and a Marriot Spa Voucher ($250).

Australian boxing champion shares her journey to #1

Our guest speaker was boxing champion April ‘Armageddon’ Adams who is currently Australia’s number 1 ranked female boxer and 2x Queensland champion.

She shared some inspirational stories about her journey to be #1, with mental and physical wellbeing proving to be equally important.

Thanks to the generosity of our guests and the local businesses which supported our fundraiser, we were able to raise an incredible $4,608 for the Love Your Sister Foundation!

Far exceeding our goal of $3,000, something we are extremely proud of.

Toowong’s local community rallies for charity

The array of prizes sparked plenty of excitement among guests and raffle sales were a huge contributor to the funds we were able to raise.

We couldn’t have done it without the support of our community and really want to thank everyone who was involved in the High Tea.

“Love Your Sister is a million strong village of every day Australians committed to vanquishing all cancers with hard science.” Together we can make a difference.
